The story, as we heard it, goes that there was this one guest who had become so friendly with the owners, upon leaving the Inn, the Innkeeper told him to keep the room key - that whenever he was in town, they would have his room ready for him. The man was so impressed, that upon his next visit, he dropped his own house key at the front desk and said, “If you ever find yourself in Texas, stop on by! You’re welcome over any time.”
Thus begin the collection of house keys at the Baldpate Inn. Over time, the dance hall was converted into the Key Room, and now boasts over 20,000 keys to houses all over the country. It’s just one of the ways that the charming and rustic Baldpate Inn has made guests feel welcome in its 99th year!
